This body of mixed-media works is a continuation of the retro-inspired imagery that I have been developing for a number of years. While I have enjoyed working with the resource of old family photos taken during the 40's and 50's, I was also aware that I wanted to work with a larger pool of imagery. Around the same time as I had this awareness, I stumbled upon a few Vogue magazines from that fabulous era, and I started incorporating collage elements into my paintings.
Since childhood, the beach has always been a major source of joy in my life. Now it plays a major role as subject matter in my art. Continuing with the themes of classic cars, glamorous women and luscious still life, I have added patterned papers reminiscent of the period, magazine elements, and script to my work. This era continues to thrill me with its uninhibited celebration of high fashion and merriment, and I know it will be a strong source of inspiration for years to come.
